Celebrate National Caregivers Day

This Friday, February 17th, is National Caregivers Day. 2017 will be the second year that this holiday is observed and it will continue to be observed on the third Friday of February every year. Caregivers provided vital services to men and women of all ages. For seniors, caregivers are often a crucial part of every day life. Without them, seniors would certainly find struggle to manage areas of life.

Aside from honoring these individuals on this day, there are many ways that you can show a caregiver your thanks and appreciation for their dedicated work.

  1. Honor them on social media.

For seniors that love to use the internet, there are many ways you can say “thank you” to these individuals online. Write a short post on Facebook, Twitter, or whichever other website you use. Share a story or a kind word for how you feel about the caregiver(s) in your life. If you can, tag them so they can hear your praise! Use #NationalCaregiversDay in your post so others can hear your kind words.

  2. Write them a thank you note.

Thank you notes are the perfect way to show your appreciation. You can always go to your local store and purchase a card, or, better yet, you can make one yourself! Write kind words to express your gratitude for the hard work your caregiver provides to you. Cite examples of when they made you feel comfortable, cared for, and loved. Let them know that their genuine care is appreciated and recognized by you.

  3. Offer them a small gift.

It does not have to be much. You can give your caregiver some flowers (maybe from your own garden!), bake them a delicious treat, or get a gift card for a cup of coffee. You spend so much time with your caregiver and have most likely gotten to know them well. Maybe they mentioned that their favorite flower is lilies or that their favorite treat is oatmeal raisin cookies. Showing them that you remembered their likes will mean the world to them.

Unfortunately, many caregivers work goes unnoticed. Despite that, they continue to work hard to ensure their patients are provided the best care possible. Show them that you appreciate their hard work and dedication to your every day care and health.
